 Ixodes holocyclus - female - partially engorgedThe Paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus) is endemic to Brisbane and its surrounds.  There are a number of other species of tick also found in the area which do not cause paralysis.  However differentiation in the fully engorged state is difficult requiring examination of the tick under a microscope. Rhipicephalus sp. Tick appearance varies depending on the state of engorgment.   It is important that if you are unsure as to what type of tick you have removed or found on your pet, that you bring the tick to our veterinary surgery for identification.
